Skywatch Friday, A Tribute To 9/11

Usually Skywatch Friday is filled with images of beautiful skies.  There are sunrises and sunsets posted that nearly take your breath away.  There was a day when the clear blue sky was filled with fire, smoke and death.  The country was filled with unbelief, sorrow, and unimaginable pain.
Do you remember where you were when you got the news. I was in a board meeting when some one came in and announced that a plane had crashed into the World Trade Center. Like most, we thought, what a terrible accident. When news came of the second plane hitting the second tower, and there was no doubt that it was a terrorist attack, work virtually came to a halt as staff were glued to their radios to find out more about what was going on. No one ever expected this kind of murderous act to be carried out on our soil. But, in one horrible day, we found ourselves fully engaged in the war on terrorism. I think we now know how our parents felt when the news of Pearl Harbor reached their ears. We were horrified, stunned, and angered, all at once. My heart still breaks for those who lost loved ones on that day, especially those who never found any sign of their loved one, to give them closure. Many lives just vanished. That would be almost too painful to bear. But the spirit that resides in those left behind has been most admirable. and, on Sunday, 9/11/11 they will have a memorial to visit and honor those who were taken from them. Often times music speaks to me better than mere words and this is one of those times. Few say it any better than Gloria Gaither and the Gaither Vocal Band. May those who suffered loss on that day find closure and a measure of peace in this memorial.

  1. I can remember everything about that day. I was the commander of the Honor Farm and quickly got all the inmates who were working in different areas of the county to return to the Honor Farm as I didn't know what else was going to happen.

After everyone was accounted for we just spent the day doing threat management. We had over 300 men to feed and house. We just didn't know what else was going to happen. I will remember that day and the days following vividly.

    Cowards. Those responsible were cowards.

    Have a terrific day. :)

  3. I'm sure most people would remember where they were and what they were doing when they first heard/saw the horrendous news, hard to believe it was 10 years ago, seems like only yesterday.

  4. Thank you for this sombre reminder of a day of infamy.

    BLESSED BE THE SKY

    Cloudy, clear,
    Bright or drear—
    Blessed be the sky!

    Sun and star,
    Near or far—
    Blessed be the sky!

    Rain or snow,
    Sunset glow—
    Blessed be the sky!

    Wind or calm,
    Healing balm—
    Blessed be the sky!

  5. I had just left the Supermarket with my son, and we were sat waiting for the traffic lights to change and listening to the car radio when a special announcement was made, my blood ran cold. I phoned my American husband, who was on his way to Scotland with a friend to deliver trout to a loch there. I later wrote a poem about it which is far too long to include here.

  6. I was driving down the Will Rogers turnpike when I heard the news. I stopped at the McDonald's and heard about the second plane and the Pentagon. Horrible day back then.

  8. That day was not a day to be admiring the otherwise beautiful blue sky. We must stay vigilant & on guard since we've always been the main target of crazy, evil humans.

Btw, you're from Arkansas? An Arkansas Sooner?!

  10. I was inside an internet cafe emailing my hubby when I heard and watch the news. Nobody speaks we are all terrified. Ten years after I still have that feeling. This week history or discovery channel had a one week 9/11 show and some videos that was not shared in public were shown last week. I watched the conclusion and one thing that I can just say, never will happen again.
I will write a post about this, how I feel that time and this time and what to look for. Coming from the country that is always terrorized by this evil people somehow stirs the trauma and the feeling of just being angry.
Just what Cafe Pasadena says, we have to be vigilant and on guard all the time. They are easy to be spotted hehehe!!! -wink-

  11. The scene is forever etched in mind, I can still see the horrible act on the twin towers without actualy seeing the pictures. I was home from work that day when I read about it on the internet. And I turned the TV on the see more horror scenes I will never forget. I was scared, mad and sad all at the same time. I'll will never forget 9/11.

  12. I was woken up early that morning (I'm in the mountain time zone so it was earlier here) to work a production issue on our computer systems. And that's when it happened.
