Master of All That He Surveys

Recently you have seen several Ruby Tuesday posts here featuring birds at the feeder on our back deck.  Occasionally a special moment  happens.  In the woods behind our house a pair of hawks took up residence a couple of years ago.  This is the first time I have been able to capture an image of one.  I am not sure if they are Red Tail or Red Shouldered hawks, but they are beautiful creatures and I could watch them for hours.  Trust me there was some nervous feeding going on around the feeder while this fellow was perched in a tree about thirty yards away.  Happy Ruby Tuesday all and have a blessed week.

  1. He's a beauty indeed and we have one that happens by now and then. Our birds all disappear until he's gone too. Smart birds.

    Have a terrific day. :)

  4. When we have hawks in the area there are no birds at our feeders! Your birds are very brave or very hungry.

  5. hee hee....
As Yogi points out, the hawks seem to see to it that the local feeders are otherwise bird free...

Speaking of Hawks, here's one from 1957...

  6. I was just watching a hawk yesterday, high up in a tree in the neighborhood...not another bird around. Then, it left, and within seconds, the tree was loaded with all kinds of grackles.

    And that cardinal....simply stunning.

  7. Nice capture.

At our old building, we were within the hunting range of a couple of eagles. We'd see the soaring every so often out over the bay. And, sometimes one would perch on the light stanchions of the 520 bridge. I never could get any decent photographs though.

  8. Because we don't have much snow this winter I have not seen my cardinal and blue birds and other birds. Kind of missing them ^_^

  10. Sorry for my delay in checking in, laptop has been in repair and I do not always have access to desktop. The hawk is most assuredly a Red-Shoulder, for which my blog derives it's name. You got a wonderful photograph of it, as well as all others. Love Cardinals, our state bird;) Have a great week~
