Ruby Tuesday Too

The last time I went to the local farmers market I noticed that there seemed to be more vendors than usual.  In fact there were several vendors just off of the square, on a side street.  Of course any event, in Arkansas, with shade structures is going to have at least one Razorback logo.  As I made my way down the street I discovered that these were not normal farmer market vendors.  There were cooking implements and equipment.  I'm thinking Chili Cook-off!  Wrong!

Only in Arkansas will you find the "World Championship Squirrel Cook-off"!  Somehow, at 8:00 a.m. on a Saturday morning, grilled, fried, boiled, or roasted squirrel just didn't make my mouth water.

Of course, even prepping the animal for cooking didn't appeal to some in attendance.  Still, it was a fun diversion from the normal farmers market fare.  Have a great Ruby Tuesday all.

  1. Hubby says squirrel is really good. I've never had one, and probably never will.

    Have a terrific day. ☺

  2. I am a bit squeamish (if not prissy) about a meal of any rodent-type animal. Perhaps more organic that cattle fed at a feed lot...at my age, not to experimental to try radically new meat. As you say, still, a fine diversion at the normally staid farmer's market...

  3. As a boy I brought home a few squirrel and a lot more rabbits. The deal was that if I cleaned them my mother would cook them. Usually in a meat pie with a thick crust. (Yum!) Sometimes fried. Just like chicken.

  4. I've never really tried squirrel but have never had the opportunity. I've had nutria gumbo so I guess that I'll try almost anything once.
