Blooming Ballerina

I've been awfully lax lately in my posting.  Life has kind of gotten in the way and I have had a hard time getting in the mood to do much of anything, including blogging. I've just had a few other things on my mind, and when it comes to thinking, I am NOT a multi-tasker.  While I have never been diagnosed as ADD, I do have a tendency to chase the occasional  imaginary rabbit from time to time.  Anyway, my wife bought a ballerina plant the other day.  It reminded her of our middle grand daughter that is in dance and loves ballet.  She will graduate to her "toe shoes" this year.  This is not the best image that I have ever produced, but, like I said, motivation has been hard to come by recently.  Happy Ruby Tuesday all.

Okay, so I found a better image.  Still, if I had used a tripod and a remote shutter, the image would have been much sharper.  Attention to details, that's the key.  I really need to remember that.

Come back on Thursday.  I have a special set of prom photos to show you.  Trust me, they are fun.  See you then.

Great Wall Reduex

Remember my "Great Wall" landscape project from last summer?

Well, here it is today.  The shrubs are starting to fill in and the roses are in full bloom.  I lost a couple of shrubs to the summer heat,  so they will have to be replaced.

Doe this look familiar?  They arrived yesterday.  That's right, I have another project in mind to keep me entertained this year.  I have a couple of additional planters that I need to build.

One of the "Great Wall II" planters will go here.  Stay tuned.
Have a blessed week-end.

Question Time

I found this meme over at Comedy Plus and decided to play along.  The original meme rules can be found at Judy H-J's Thoughts- A Twinless Twin. You're supposed to tag some other bloggers, but I'll let you decide if you want to participate.  I haven't done a blog post without a photograph in quite some time.

1.How long have you been blogging?

I started in April of 2007 with a blog I called "BrainFreeze".  I didn't know how to compress photos, so I used up all of the available memory in a couple of years.  That's when I started Driller's Place.

2. Are you a procrastinator or do you take care of things right away?

Yes.  Some things I will take care of in a timely manner, other things, not so much.

3. If you have siblings, are you close?

I am an only child and I am okay with that.

4. What's the best thing about your job? The worst?

I'm semi-retired, so the best thing about my job is that it is only three days a week.  The worst thing about it, is that it is still three days a week.

5. If you had $1,000 to spend on anything you wanted, what would you buy?

Spend it on my wife.

6. How long has it been since you visited your hometown?

I was born in Henryetta, OK and grew up in Tulsa, OK.  I consider Tulsa my hometown.  It's been nearly a year since I was there last.  Since dad passed away in 2009, I don't have any real family ties there anymore.

7. Have you decorated for Easter/Spring? please share pictures.

My wife decorates some for every season.  There is at least a wreath on the door and a few decorations in the living room.  Christmas is a different story.  She turns the house into something spectacular for the birth of our Savior.

8. Do you sleep with a fan on?

Yes, there is a ceiling fan that we sleep under nearly every night.  I think it's one reason I don't always sleep well in hotel rooms...no air movement.

9. The beach or the mountains?

Mountains I suppose.  I love being on the lake, in my bass boat, but I'm not a huge fan of salt water.

10. If you had to choose only one which would you pick: Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, or blogging?

Blogging I guess.  I do use Facebook to keep up with some family and friends.  I have never used my Twitter account.  I just signed up on Pinterest, but haven't posted anything there.

11. When shopping, do you use coupons or shop around for the best deal?

We use a few coupons and I will shop around for the best deal, unless I have a very specific product in mind.  I will use Amazon or Ebay to get the best deal on some items that I am not in a hurry to receive.

Early To Rise

I know that Easter has come and gone, but Christ is still risen!  Crucified on a cross of shame, buried in a borrowed tomb, he laid in the grave for three days.  Then on the morning of the third day he rose from the dead to sit at the right hand of the Father.  "Up From The Grave He Arose!"  Have a blessed week-end.

Resurrection Sunday

He's Alive!

It is no secret that I love to capture sunrises and sunsets.  There is just something special about them.  However, sunrise on Easter Sunday is truly unique.  It reminds me that my savior has risen from the grave and sits at the right hand of the Father.  It reminds me that there is victory over sin and death.  It reminds me that there is eternal life for those who call upon the name of the Lord.
Easter is far more than bunnies and colored eggs.  It is about a risen savior and eternal life.  Crucified on a cross of shame and laid to rest in a borrowed grave, his detractors believed that they had rid themselves of a religious zealot and a nuisance.  Three days later, Christ arose from the grave and has gone to prepare a place for us.  In the hearts of those who know Him as their personal Lord and Savior, He's Alive!!

I encourage you to find the church of your choice and worship this Sunday. Christ died for you and I. Celebrate His resurrection. Happy Easter, and have a blessed week-end.

The Del

As you may be able to tell, from the last couple of posts, I've been traveling on business again.  Recently, I was on the road for seven out of ten days, I was at opposite ends of the country.  My last Ruby Tuesday post of the CNN center was taken in Atlanta, GA.  I was there on a Monday-Wednesday trip.  I got home Wednesday evening and started preparing for a trip to San Diego, which brings us to this picture.  This week I was at the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego.  It is widely known as simply "The Del".  If you want to know more about this place, click on the link.  Originally built in 1887, this place has a history of of hosting the rich and famous.  During the 20's through the 60's, this hotel was a popular retreat for cinema greats like Clark Gable and Marylin Monroe.  Perhaps the  best comedy movie of all time, "Some Like It Hot" was filmed at this location.  While the rich and famous still frequent this resort, I got the feeling that it is now much more of a tourist destination than an exclusive retreat for the wealthy and the famous.  I was attending a business event for the restaurant industry.  I did not stay in the main building, but was assigned to another building on the property.  Like most of my business events, I was way too busy to truly enjoy the hotel itself, and sight seeing was simply out of the question.  Like I tell people who ask me about my travels, "I've been all over this country, I just haven't seen much of it."  When you're in meetings and business functions from 7:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. each day, you see very little of the place.  You just grab a couple of the brochures and hope to return to the area again some day.
I've been to San Diego a couple of other times and had a little more free time to see a few of the sights.  I would like to return to the area and stay for about a week and see some of the really cool stuff.  Happy Ruby Tuesday all.
