Wordless Wednesday - Murals

An emerging trend in Northwest Arkansas, particularly Ft. Smith and Bentonville, are wall murals adorning blank walls of downtown buildings.  Some are very creative.

This mural combines advertizing the business with a creative landscape. I really like this one, especailly when you just focus on the mural and eliminate the clutter.

Several of these are found at the end of alley's and serve to draw your attention away from the usuall dumpsters and electrical service boxes. This is a very nice monochrome pastoral scene.

I have to admit, I like these better than graffiti. I like a lot of the grafitti that I see, but the cloud of gang art, and vandalism still hangs over this artform. Grafitti can be very interesting, beautiful, and creative, but it still carries the idea of defacing something in the middle of the night.

  1. I like these better than graffiti too. There are a lot of gang graffiti around here. Lots of gangs too. Pitiful.

People don't stop to realize that they are messing with someones property. It's kind of sad.

Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday. ☺

    1. All of these pieces are commissioned works. I like that idea.

  2. Very nice, I wish more towns would do this also, I really prefer looking at these murals as opposed to the other things sitting in the alleyways and such.

    1. There are certainly plenty of opportunities to improve the urban landscape in most communities.

  4. Those are great murals. Downtown Tulsa is seeing more murals also. Tulsa has a permission zone for graffiti at a liquor store in East Tulsa. The examples there are wonderful. Other than that a lot of it is vandalism.
