Hoopty Doo!

Winter sports are now in full swing and the conference games have started. Tuesday night I wandered over to one of the local high schools to photograph a game.

One thing that has changed about the game in the past 50 years is that these kids play above the rim...a lot! I believe that the tallest player on our team was 6'-4" and I don't believe anybody could actually dunk the ball.

On this night the home team, in white, lost. It was competitive for about three quarters before the visitors pulled away for good. Still, it was a good photo adventure.

If you have a local high school team near by, get out and go to a couple of games. It is good cheap entertainment. Take your camera and practice your action photography.

In our community senior citizens, age 65+, get free all sports passes. We can go to any home game in any sport for free. Now that is cheap entertainment. See you on the court, or in the pool, maybe at the indoor track, or on the wrestling mat.

Ruby Tuesday

March Madness
(High School Style)

Last week I went to the High School state basketball play-offs.  There is always red to be found there and there is never a shortage of "Bow-heads".  The look on this cheerleaders face is "The Agony of Defeat".
Our team won 77-59.
The first game tipped off at 2:30.  The games alternated between boys and girls games.  Since our girls team was the second game of the day and our boys team was the last game of the evening, we were there for about eight hours.  It was great fun.

There is no lack of pageantry at the play-offs.  Every team brings their pep squad and cheerleaders.  You also get to see a lot of colors.  My high school alma mater's school colors were Kelly Green and White, so I just had to include this group in the post.  No, this is not my alma mater, but I love the colors.

Everybody has their "Game Face" on.  There is no lack of intensity at any of these match-ups.

There was no lack of action from any of the the teams either.  I am positive that I got to see a few young men and women that will be playing this game when they get to college.

If you haven't been to a high school tournament, do yourself a favor and make your way to one the next time you get a chance.  It's way more fun than sitting at home, and it's cheaper than a movie...$6.00 admission and I saw five games in eight hours.  It just doesn't get any better than that.  Later this week the outdoor track season begins and I have a grand daughter competing in a couple of events.  Guess what you're going to get to see very soon.
