On a recent road trip to take care of some family business, my wife and I had the occasion to spend the night in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. I was born in Henryetta, just a few miles south, but I had never been to downtown Okmulgee...until now. I was struck by the fact that the downtown area was much larger than I expected. I was also amazed at the collection of wonderful old buildings in town. I got up early in the morning and drove down to the business district to photograph some of the details. I could have spent a week here. As an architect I marvel at the detail in these old brick structures and the amount of cast stone that is present. It is true, "They don't build 'em like they used to."
