I spent last Wednesday afternoon at the local Community Center watching a high school swim meet. I had a great time and these are some of the images from the day.
For many, sunsets on Friday mark the end of the work week and the beginning of two days to rest, relax and recharge the batteries before Monday morning. For the retired, sunsets on Friday simply mark the end of another day. I'm retired and I prefer my perspective of Friday sunsets. Some people fill their retirement with so many activities that they say they are busier than when they were working. I'm not one of those, but sometime I do look back on my days of employment and wonder how did I squeeze all of the things I do now into my evenings and week-ends before. I mean the necessary things, like mowing the lawn, landscaping the yard, going to the grandkids activities, fishing, photography, etc. I will admit, that I have some days that are pretty much void of activity now, but I'm okay with that. That just means that I can recharge my batteries on days other than Saturday & Sunday so I can be ready for the week-end activities. Have a blessed week-end.
Tuesday I spent much of the afternoon at the Community Center pool watching the high school district diving competition. I had a great time and you can scroll down to see what I captured. Yesterday I spent much of the afternoon back at the pool watching the swim competition. Above is one example of what I captured. While the swimmer is putting all of her effort into the competition, she is also glancing to the side to check and see where the competition is.
Often, in the race of life we spend too much time checking on the competition and not enough time giving our best effort to win the race. Toward the end of his life, the apostle Paul reflected on his life race and said, "For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith." (2 Timothy 4:6-7). Paul kept his spiritual eye on the finish line, meeting his Savior in heaven. He knew where his adversary was at all times, and he didn't have to check to see were the evil one was. Paul knew that the race had been won when he accepted Christ as his Savior on the road to Damascus. He knew that as long as he focused his attention on Christ, Satan would always be behind him and never in control of him. The day that Paul stepped into eternity, he stepped into the waiting arms of the Savior. The race was won, not because of what Paul did, but because of who Jesus was. Have a blessed day.
Today found me at the local community center photographing the high school district diving championships. Similar to dance, I am amazed at the things that the human body can do when properly trained. Tomorrow the swim meet starts and I'll have to get there early to claim my spot. Come back and see what I managed to capture.
Saturday afternoon found me at the local Boys & Girls Club photographing the grandson's basketball game. I photographed one of his games for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Today I got in a better position to capture the action.
The grandson is No. 3 in purple and No. 2 is one of his best friends. It worked out great that they are on the same team this year. They may get to play on the same baseball team in the spring as well.
These boys are 12 & 13. While they have a long way to go, some of them have decent skills. Here the best friend is bringing the ball down the court to set up the offense. I'm sure they work on set plays in practice, but they don't always translate to the game.
Still there is the occasional moment that players, family, & even the photographer enjoys. Later this week I'll be at the high school swim meet. That will be fun. Sports photography season is just beginning for me, and this year it may be a year-around endeavor. Have a blessed week.
I haven't posted many new Skywatch Friday photos this year. A year ago we moved from a relatively rural, wooded setting into town. We downsized our home and simplified many aspects of our lives, which was a very good thing, but the views at sunrise and sunset are much less spectacular because I don't really care for rooftops and power lines in my photos. Some days the colors are just too good not to capture. Regardless of the urban clutter, the sky makes the image worth capturing. Have a blessed week-end.
