Wordless Wednesday - Motion

Motion

 The last couple of basketball games I've been working on an old technique to try to capture the motion of the game. This involves slowing the shutter speed down and panning the camera with the players. The hope is to get the player in focus, but those things that are moving fast will be blurred. In basketball that will typically be the hands and feet. Panning the camera also adds a motion blur to the background.

The down side to this technique is that you need to be sitting along the side of the court, which means that you miss some of the action under the basket. Obviously, the up side it that a new level of action is introduced into the image.

Tools

I've been working on a landscape project lately and the most useful tools have been my lawn tractor and trailer.  They have saved me time, energy and probably several trips to the chiropractor.

  Motion

I love Southern Gospel music and Signature Sound Quartet is one of the best groups working today.  They also seem to always be in motion.  I captured this image a couple of weeks ago at their matinee concert in Memphis, TN.  

  Sweet

I also have a fondness for classic cars.  This is the pink Cadillac that Elvis bought for his mother.  Mary Kay was not the first one to reward special people with pink automobiles.

 Dots

While wandering through a local department store the other day, I spotted these glasses.  I was pretty sure that this was going to be my best opportunity to capture an image that featured dots.

Stripes

As we head toward the 4th of July holiday, fireworks stands are popping up everywhere in our area.  This one happens to use a brightly striped tent to help draw customers off of the highway.  Coupled with the "Stars & Stripes", I think I've got this prompt covered.

 Background

I am interested in doing some portrait work.  I will probably get the opportunity to photograph the oldest grand daughter for some of her senior portraits.  One of the keys to a great portrait is an interesting background, even if you intend to blur it in the photo.  This structure is located about two miles from our house, but I will have to get the owners permission to use it as part of a photo shoot, since it is posted.  There are several great locations within this frame for a portrait, including the fireplace in the back left side of the structure.  I think this is going to make a great background.

Spotted/Dots

 I spotted this spotted chair at a local craft fair this week-end.  I was fearful that this category might be the most difficult to fill, but I think this will work, don't you?

Weather

  Here is one for the record books.  We have NEVER had snow in Arkansas, in May, as long as weather data has been collected in the state.  On Tuesday I was sitting in the stands at the Arkansas baseball game in 75 degree weather.  Thursday night the temperature dropped into the 30's and we got nearly an inch of snow.  Friday morning we got another dusting,  There is just something wrong about that.  Really, there is.

Motion

  As soon as I saw "Motion" as a cue, I knew where I was headed.  Thursday, the state high school championship track meet was held at the local high school.  I knew I would find plenty of motion there.  Of course I wasn't planning on 40 degree temperatures, wind, and spitting rain.  The conditions were miserable, but I managed this capture of one of the competitors in the long jump.

Sweet

 For me, no trip to Cracker Barrel is complete without purchasing a bag, or two, of Bob's Old Timey Pepermint Candy, pure sugar sticks.  That's it for this week.  Have a blessed Sunday and I'll see you again next week.
