Scavenger Hunt Sunday

It was a very interesting hunt this week.  I actually had most of the items around the house.  Here we go.

The Small Things
The youngest grand daughter brought this seedling home from school in November.  Since we live on the edge of the woods, her parents suggested that she bring it to our house to plant.  The weather was turning cold and winter was on it's way, so we decided to nurture it through the winter and plant it this spring.  In a few weeks, the grand daughter will come out for a visit and we will plant this little tree in it's new home.

Illustration
I did this illustration in 1965.  It was an assignment in my first design class, in the college of Architecture, at Oklahoma State University.  I did not get a passing grade, but I eventually got my degree and made a career in architecture.  This year I will retire from the profession.

Valentine
I don't know of anything that says Valentine like these little candy hearts.  I think they have been around forever.  I can remember getting them in elementary school, and that has been a l-o-o-o-o-n-n-g time ago.

Work of Art
Obviously I consider architecture an art form.  This happens to be Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, in Bentonville, AR.  That means this is a work of art that houses other works of art.  See how that works.

Window Beauty
I honestly don't know of any form of art more beautiful than stained glass.  During the day the sun strikes the glass and fills the interior space with light and color.  At night, interior lights strike the glass and provide a work of art for all, who pass by, to enjoy.

Have a blessed Sunday.  See you next week.

  1. I thought this week's challenge was a super tough one. You have done a great job with all of these.

I love your sketch and find it hard to believe you actually got a failing grade on it.

These are all wonderful. I too love stained glass windows and churches have some of the very loveliest to be found!

I hope you have a blessed and happy week!

  3. I agree with about stained glass. Nothing prettier when the sun is shining. That Crystal Bridges Museum gives me most satisfying museum experience of anywhere I've ever been and I've been to a lot of world class museums. And I think your illustration shows a lot of talent. I won't even ask how you didn't get a passing grade!

  4. Whats this no passing grade crap?!?!? I think the illustration is great, and is, quite frankly, pretty close to one of the designs I have in my head for my own house when I get rich and famous...

  13. Wow your set is fabulous.
That little tree is so cute and I bet your granddaughter will enjoy planting it.
Loved the Illustration you drew. The building that houses the art is very unique looking.
That is a gorgeous stained glass window and yes those Valentine hearts seem to have been around forever.

  14. Incredible choices - I find it hard to believe that your first illustration did not muster a passing grade as it is quite lovely, but perhaps the instructor was looking for more than quite lovely - his/her loss. I also find architecture to be very much an art form and suspect you will miss the profession.

Good luck with your grand-daughter's tree. My son brought one home from school when in the 4th and it survived 6 years to succumb to something last summer. He named it Earl. She must give it a name.

  15. I've always admired those who can draw. I can a little bit, but I never pursued any formal education in the arts. My grandmother was a wonderful artist. As I get older, I'm drawn (pardon the pun) more and more to the arts and thinking that I would like to take some basic drawing classes to see if that small bit of talent I had as a child can be found again.

  18. Well, hello, fellow Arkansan! It's always nice to meet someone from the same area! I live near Little Rock. The shot of Chrystal Bridges is beautiful. I've yet to get up there, but I will. I love the image of the small tree and it's story! I know she will enjoy seeing her tree grow. And, the stained glass window is gorgeous! I love the vibrant colors and all the intricate pieces!
