Aww Monday

Recently I was at a local park/lake which is frequented by and home to a variety of waterfowl. This is what happens when you feed the animals. They discontinue their migratory flight. They become dependent on human handouts. They nest and hatch a brood. The brood is now imprinted that this place is home and the cycle never ends. The new hatchlings never realize that they are supposed to winter in the north and migrate to the south. They just believe that this place is their permanent home and will continue to raise generations of ducks that have no clue what they are supposed to be doing. Still, when you see one up close, you just say Aww, and look for a snack to share.

  1. We do this with people too. Oh wait, that's off topic.

Let me start over...Awww, adorable. We don't feed them anymore.

Loved the video. Pretty soon you'll be posting your Christmas music. I love it when you do.

Have a fabulous Awww Monday. ☺

  3. I see lots of geese and ducks at the open spaces where we walk and run. I hear people complain. I never feed them because they will fine you as signs are posted everywhere. There are fish in the lakes so I imagine most of them enjoy that when the weather is nice. They are smart creatures and near the park where I live they look both ways before stepping off the curb! Something humans really should learn to do! Have a great week.

    1. No, most native birds (cardinals, finches, woodpeckers) live in the same area all year and feeders help them get through the winter. It's migratory birds (geese, ducks, etc.) that become dependent on our handouts and wind up living all year in places they really don't belong.
